Most reviews on this blog are of books, but this review is for something most Bible scholars, students, and pastors also value and depend on—coffee.
This is a review of the 2 Timothy 1:7 Decaf – Bold, Peaceful Purpose from Promised Grounds.
Promised Grounds is a Texas-based coffee roaster that seeks to do good through its Ounce-for-Ounce Promise, providing clean water to people in need of hydration and the good news of Jesus Christ. For every ounce of coffee brewed, they promise to provide an equal amount of drinking water to those in need.
The following information comes from the product page:
Sourced from ethically and organically farmed beans in Central and South America, this roast is naturally decaffeinated, free from chemicals, and roasted fresh in Texas just before it ships to you.
They roast high-quality beans in small batches to provide premium coffee.
What follows is my review of 2 Timothy 1:7 Decaf – Bold, Peaceful Purpose brewed black with a drip coffee maker.

Coffee Review Scoring Criteria
Each of the following five categories is rated on a 5-point scale.
Aroma
Rated from simple to complex.
Considers the depth and variety of scents present before and after brewing.
Score: 4 – The coffee smells great, with a medium-strength aroma.
Taste
Rated from clear and balanced to harshly bitter.
Focuses on overall flavor clarity, balance, and whether bitterness enhances or detracts from the cup.
Score: 4 – This coffee has great balance, with only a hint of bitterness that adds complexity. I wouldn’t call it bold, but it’s strong enough in flavor to satisfy.
Body
Rated from light to full.
Describes the weight and mouthfeel of the coffee on the palate.
Score: 2 – The body felt bright and relatively light; it is not overly rich or heavy.
Finish
Rated from harsh to smooth.
Assesses how the coffee lingers after swallowing and whether the aftertaste is pleasant.
Score: 4 – Very smooth. The aftertaste is pleasant but does not linger for too long.
Overall Rating
Rated from poor to superior.
A holistic assessment that accounts for all categories and general enjoyability.
Score: 4.5 – This is an excellent decaf coffee with a subtle, smooth chocolate and caramel profile. I would love to try a darker roast to see if those notes become more pronounced.
Brewing Notes and Final Thoughts
I used a ceramic burr grinder and brewed with both a standard drip coffee maker and my trusty Bialetti Moka Express. I drank it black, with cream, and with whole milk—always without sugar. Although I typically prefer my coffee with plenty of milk, this is one I can easily enjoy black or with just a splash of cream.
This coffee is a genuinely good decaf—smooth, balanced, and easy to enjoy any time of day. If you usually settle for decaf “because you have to,” this one actually feels like real coffee. Even better, Promised Grounds has a mission to provide people with clean drinking water and the living water found in Jesus Christ.
NB: Special thanks to Promised Grounds for providing me with this coffee in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my thoughts in any way, so far as I know.
